The turn up of students participating in the BC students walk out at my school was pretty low. It seemed to me as if mostly everyone was in attendance at school. The kids that I noticed that participated in the walkout were kids who didn't really care much for school and only used it as an excuse to miss class for a day. Furthermore, being in grade 12, we must set an example to our younger peers because ditching class would be setting a bad example to the younger students as ditching school probably isn't good idea even though it is already June. Personally I had no intentions of participating in the walk out as I could not afford to lose another day in class. Exams are coming up and we students need all the time and help we can get before provincial exams and exams start! As well, being in my final year of high school I do not wish to miss school for unnecessary reasons. It is quiet frustrating for us students who are caught in the middle of this dispute as teachers cannot fully give us the full attention that we students need as they are limited to the hours of operation. My personal encounter with this dispute is with the library, because of this strike I cannot study nor do homework at breaks or lunch in the library! I personally think the walk out was pointless and had little or no effect on the provincial government. The time put into the walk out was a complete total waste of time!

BC Students Walkout!
On June 4th, 2014, students across
British Columbia walked out of class in response to the teacher's and
provincial government's dispute over a contract. This walkout was organized by
Victoria Barker, a grade 12 student who got the word around through social
media using Facebook. Students showed annoyance as they created signs and
gathered along school property and on sidewalks showing their concern as they
got, "passing motorist [to honk]" and even got some parents to come
by and stand alongside with them. This is the second week that the teachers of
British Columbia have been on strike and it's impacted the students as it is
the students who are truly suffering from this contract dispute.
